So as I have been overwhelmed with school, life, and the like I decided to take a bit of a break today. I am a rare breed: I relax by watching cartoons, eating Nutella on toast, and photo editing. I came across this really nifty outfit I wore to a live show at Levering Hall. I went with my friend Lani and really had a good time. Recently it came to my attention I never posted what I wore! As a side note: I really love photographing Dope Body, a band from Baltimore, they always give a great performance. Rap Dragons and Ecstatic Sunshine also performed that night.

This is a fashion blog but I figured I would clue you in to what my musical favorites have been over the past 12 months. This isn't a complete list because blogger somehow deleted the other half of this post. I can do favorite songs of the month if you are interested so please give me your feedback.
A diary of sorts. And no, I didn't get to Art Basel.....
Friday: PICTURE TIME
I went to Deep in the Game with guest performer Sewn Leather. Two of my friend's had birthdays. I do remember a toasting to being old (i.e. 22) with my pals Sharela, Dain, and Anna.
Goodtimes were had and I really enjoyed myself. And I totally got a free sub at the end of night, thanks to some mystery guy.
Saturday: Totally exhausted. A bunch of kids stampeded my job, we got it under control in a matter of minutes. I felt like a super hero but was too tired to go out. Super heroes need rest too....
Sunday: Yesterday was a blue-collar day in every sense of the word. I worked 9 hours and came home to the football game. Although the team I was rooting for lost I was consoled by the fact that it was a good day all in all.
I am impressed with the power of love and understanding. This particular event gave me an opportunity to witness it. (Although to look back on it now seems morbid) A little over a month ago my friend DJ was attacked and received a lot of injuries. His close friends got a benefit show together for him at the Floristree. It was a great experience to see people opening their wallets to someone they really cherish as a person. And they raised quite a bit of funds.
This is Sam. He is in a band called Future Islands. He never has a "normal" picture.
Kendall doing her thing.
I decided to lend a hand at the door. Kendall was the best!
Oh Risa and Amelia, you guys are the best for chit chat at shows!
Shannon is my friend from way back. That is why I can take weird pictures of her.
Me, Becca and John (old roommates). I miss them a bit although they only moved one floor down.

I don't know this guy but he was wearing Dj's band's tee. Teenage Souls dude!
Jaynell and Becca, the happiest people, EVER. lol
Denny and William look like they are about to engage in battle. Did I mention how sweaty this place can get?
Isn't he adorable? This is a great video as you get to hear the man speak about himself for once.
He is hands down one of my favorite streetstyle photographers and has been for a long time.
I was so busy this weekend I didn't realize til today that he was interviewed by SLU.
My weekend was jammed pack with awesome live music and running around. I worked as at a now defunct festival called Whartscape. Through wind and rain and everything else it was a big hit. I am also sad to note that it will be the last of its kind. This year I had the privilege of helping out at the festival. I met a lot of amazing musicians, show goers, and volunteers who all made such a great festival even better. Also a big shout out to H&H building, Dan Deacon, Stephanie Levin, Robbie, Adam, and Ed because they worked their asses off like no one else I have seen. I am tired and exhausted so sorry if I haven't responded to your emails or comments.

I also created a project with a few friends who documented the festival. I cannot wait to get the film back from the shop. It will take about a week to organize and post. Meanwhile, here is a flickr feed of pictures uploaded so far. I was definitely inspired by this festival and hope that another group of people can come together to make it happen again, and again, and again.
If Jay-Z had a love child in Baltimore it would be the Rap Dragons. I know these guys as friends and they work hard on their craft. They managed to find a lot of songs from musicians in the area to create a great album called Featuring Baltimore. Hopefully they will tour soon, so I can talk about them some more. They are performing at this years Whartscape. Tickets are probably sold out but give it a try.
My favorite tracks on this album?
Track 15: Big Dreamers (featuring sample by Future Islands)
Track 12: I Went to Her (featuring Seven and Beach House)
This is Future Islands. While they are originally from NC they have embraced Baltimore, where I currently reside. Talent is an understatement. They are just doing their thing and doing it well. Sam, the lead singer, has a weird voice and that is what most people tell me. Before my influence from others I thought his voice was kind of sexy. But what do I know?
Their newest album was put out on Thrill Jockey (Congrats boys!). And I got to listen to it a little early. Needless to say I really love what they do with music. I say this because they are considered a New Wave band and who isn't sick and tired of that. They are definitely agressive and I like that too. I also like that they don't wear skinny jeans and have 5 o'clock shadows.
I try to keep name dropping to a minimum on this blog. It takes away from the whole process of creating content for this blog. But since I am in a fashion lull I want to talk more about music! Hopefully this will give me a kick in the pants. Sam, however, has some impressive style. He always wears slacks and a dress shirt. On top of that people seem captivated by his facial expressions. More on his style and swagger at a later date.
Mashable recenty posted about easy ways in which to share mixtapes online. Mashable, I love you. Today and every monday to come I will share with you some recent tunes I am into. I mean, music is my first inspiration. Most of my readers love music too. I feel music is just as important to me as fashion or my newely acquired Lula Mag! The pictures is of Beach House who, if I haven't turned you on to yet, are amazing. I also added a Genesis song to make the Captain happy.
In other news: I found a tailor and a cobbler! Time will tell if they live up to their good reputations. I bought some handmade sandals at the Brooklyn Flea and have to tweak them a bit.
Rarely do I use caps, it was highly necessary.
I took a bunch of drunken pictures and edited the good ones.
Now I am back to a month and a half of school.
Yes I have started the tedious countdown to no more school.
It is an age old tradition.
In other news Daria is definitely being released in May on DVD.
It will be my big purchase before I leave for Cali.
I am oozing with excitement.
Tonight I am seeing a riveting documentary on Picasso at a local theater.
How do I know it is riveting?
It has been recommended to me by friends and bloggers a like.
That is why. I trust them to tell me what is hot or not.
A lengthy review might follow.
Benign journal entry + music video! I woke up today feeling super groggy. As the Captain threw himself out of bed and into some decent clothes for work I laid in bed feeling slouchy. Have you ever felt completely slouchy, like a sloth? Well, I am over it now but it took some Au Revoir Simone to get me going. I am very much in love with them right now. I know they have been out for a while. I have loved them since the begining but right now I can't take their music away from my ears. I'm listening to the Drums also. The walls are so thin in my rickshaw apartment that my roommate May could hear it and was whistling along. She is a sweet girl and doesn't mind the music that I play constantly but I hate disturbing others in the morning and late at night. Yesterday I sent my appeal to my advisor so hopefully all checks out. I am crossing my fingers. here is a video featuring the Drums.
If you are in the Baltimore area you should check out this show (picture below). The show features two side projects from our friends' band Future Islands. My boyfriend (the Captain)DB, and C-dog are throwing it at his house. They really work hard together to put on great shows. Everyone says they enjoy themselves and that is absolutely wonderful that I can share experiences with them. There is also a Variety Show on the 4th floor proper. Get at me for the details! Here is the poster for the show...

If Emo kids got soul, rythmn, and some disco they would come close to Friendly Fires. As you know, if you have been reading, I am a big music nerd. Anything I don't know I want to know, that includes genres I am not too fond of. Friendly Fires have been featuredon music blogs as early as and I listened here and there. I just started looking at their music videos. I don't typically watch music videos at all, I have been scarred by MTV. Their music videos make me happy inside and although that might seem like a hippie comment it is true. There is a return to dancey-dance music that I am so ready for. I went to a "noise show" abotu a month ago and they were doing some heavy drone and trance combos. I can't wait!!!
The second video is a remix done with Au Revoir Simone covering Paris, get the picture now? I love ARS, I have seen them twice live. Now what the fuck triggered this post again? Oh yea! Daul Kim's blog: I Like To Fork Myself JOY D.
THIS just happened Friday. It was the first show in their small tour. Very select dates, I managed to get my picture taken by some local magazine. I will post once I find it. You have missed one of the most epic colabs in indie label history...are No Age , Dan Deacon, and Deerhunter still on indie labels? Doesn't matter, I was beside myself to hear a local favorite play with Deerhunter and No Age in the mix. My music nerd fuse shot off the richter scale. totally, totally awesome. i love my city, if only for a little bit, once again. SIDENOTE: Sonar's sound sounded the best it has since Baltimore Round Robin, thanks Dan because I know it was you who made that possible.
What always happens, and Jess B. can back me up on this, is that everytime I say I like a band...the Captain and his friends have snide remarks. Now I don't take it personally. They think I am aprat of the hipster agenda. I pretend I know what the fuck they are talking about but I don't. People have made crappy music since day one. People have made pretty good music in recent history. I don't see the point in bitching a moaning about which music is which because it will be replicated faster and faster. Just relax! You have the music that satifsfies you...FUCK OFF.
Summer school and my fucked immune system leave me feeling groggy. ps. this refinery29 headline(#6) gave me a great idea for a shirt. Eventually I will create...just hasn't happened. I need to be thoroughly inspired god damnit! Joy D.
Often, usually over coffee, my friends, and I talk about Baltimore music. I guess I should be embarrassed about how close I feel to the music community even though I have only played one show, but I don't. Anyway The New Flesh pops up in conversation all the time. Why? Because they are music gold: their music is tight, their performances are great, and they are pretty cool guys. Would you like to see what I am talking about? (all photos taken from their here) It would be better if I could post upcoming shows they are playing but I think they are on some sort of break. EDIT: Now you can leave comments, some code needed to be arranged.
