Friend Friday: The Ins and Outs of My Blog

This week is a short Q and A of what I am packing under my technology belt. It has helped me to blog efficiently but not necessarily glamorous. I am throwing in some more Baltimore live show pictures for good measure as I am sure you can't get enough of me and my friends dancing around and hot guys in bands. Also, I promise to be back to my frequent blogging self soon. (Sickness is a wicked mofo.)

1. What technology do you use in blogging? I have two computers: a desktop and a laptop. Yes I am a little obsessed with technology and the internet. My friend just told me the other day that I am about 75 percent internet. My camera is a NikonD5000, it is the new cub to the litter of gadgets. My phone is a Droid Eris which I have a love and hate relationship with. I don't really like blogging from my phone. I think it is fussy and time consuming. I also have a scanner that will make its debut soon on the blog. I found it at my old apartment and so it is pretty old but it does the trick!

2. What computer and online technology do you use? My laptop is a trusty dell. It is so practical it is far from cute but it endures all the wear and tear of me as both a student and a blogger. My desktop is a Sony Vaio, it is awesome! While my football team was playing I used to watch games on it. And when designers had live streams I watched in hi def! It is a blessing to have since I refuse to get cable television.

3. What is your process for taking pictures? All of my outfit posts are done with me and my camera as well as the nifty self timer option. I borrowed a remote once and it made me feel even more awkward in front of the camera so I ditched it. All of the party photos are shot by myself. I am hoping to invest in more lenses in the coming months or an adapter. Then the fun really begins.

4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Do you scout locations or shoot the same spot daily? This will sound a little contrived but I go on an inspiration by inspiration basis. My outfit posts are fairly cut and dry because I only find that to be a very small percentage of my blog.

5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would you be buying? This is tough. I would probably get a bunch of lenses for my camera and a better printer/scanner. Definitely a Mac laptop with enough gigs to keep all my photos on it although I wouldn't. Oh, and I would get a couple more external hard drives as I have a lot of video projects coming up and have no place to store them!

Saturday Street Style

I am having fun with these themed days on the blog so why not keep it going! Just so you know there is Fashion Film Monday, Friends Fridayz, and now Saturday Streetstyle! Here are a couple I took in 2010. I just realized the common theme with these two ladies is that they are both wearing D-ring style belts. The first picture features some wicked awesome trousers.

A-night-to-remember2.jpg

I love seeing my friends out and about. For two months now it has meant more to me to be around the one I love and the ones that love me back. Going out has been so much fun because I am able to de-stress. Also, there are some wicked awesome Djs in my town so there is a surprising array of music out there to be exposed to. Hell, even my roommates boyfriend is a Dj. So yes I wouldn't suggest that Bmore is "the place to be" for Djs but I have a good time and always dance my...but off. This time around Cult Baltimore was having an event at Club Phoenix.

Carine and Curly cue updates

|There was going to be this whole convoluted post about the Carine Roitfeld departure from Vogue, but...
I will just do it here. First of all, WTF? The rumors have been piling in from regular media and fashion media a like. Is it true she will be the editor until March? Some of the stories just don't add up but I do love a juicy fashion story. Who knows maybe this is the next great fashion editor shift of Summer 2010. (Do you guys even remember that, it happened so fast.)

Thank you to Abdu for taking this lovely photo.

I am really loving my hair, it doesn't hurt getting compliment all the time. It is nice to know that I can get a maximum of 10 hours over 5 days and still look somewhat presentable. Ugh, I hate finals week. The worst is over: one of the many projects I had included a sock puppet allegory of post-modernism. Ok so it was just sock puppets and stock footage of....well here, see for yourself:

I don't rap like Tavi or Christina, I make crazy-silly videos.

An outfit post: Contemplating on stress

Haha, stress season has hit! I am in the midst of cataloging research for school, inventory for Etsy, and so on and so forth. I wish stress was a person, he/she would deserve a good talking to. What music do you listen to in order to de-stress? I am listening to Animal Collective. It is a little cliche but they always put me in an active and cheerful mood. Yes, music has the power to do lots of things. And yes is cold and it has been difficult to adjust quickly to gusting winds. Because of the oodles of other writing I have been doing in other frontiers I have run out of fun stuff for you readers so I have let my camera do the talking this time. Working on taking photographs has been a fun struggle.
I have really been enjoying all of your feedback and I will continue to respond.

My weekend in a nutshell

A diary of sorts. And no, I didn't get to Art Basel.....

Friday: PICTURE TIME

I went to Deep in the Game with guest performer Sewn Leather. Two of my friend's had birthdays. I do remember a toasting to being old (i.e. 22) with my pals Sharela, Dain, and Anna.
Goodtimes were had and I really enjoyed myself. And I totally got a free sub at the end of night, thanks to some mystery guy.
Saturday: Totally exhausted. A bunch of kids stampeded my job, we got it under control in a matter of minutes. I felt like a super hero but was too tired to go out. Super heroes need rest too....
Sunday: Yesterday was a blue-collar day in every sense of the word. I worked 9 hours and came home to the football game. Although the team I was rooting for lost I was consoled by the fact that it was a good day all in all.

I could have danced all night: music and photography from da club (picture heavy)

Here are a few shots of my friends and I at various dance parties around the city. Can I say that I love to party because I do. Baltimore isn't necessarily known for its club scene but I never have a boring experience. My friends are always around and there is at least one club with a good dj. I would like to take this time to give a shout out to Dj Schwarz and the Mustache Crew who made the booty shaking happen in these photos. So for all my out of town friends, get your butts over here so we can dance!

Break-ups, hang-ups, and opportunities: some advice and reflection

Life is beautiful, let's share a little....
It is a slogan I introduced to this blog because it is true for how I live my life. No matter how ugly this world can get I find beautiful things to be explored. The media news, by design, would like the general public to be upset and scared but I have learned that the world is not as sad as it seems on the TV screen. Media critique aside, even life events get in the way of your comfortability as a person. It is tough. How do I cope?

I saw a praying mantis outside my house, it was so peaceful.

Number 1: I meditate, it sounds cheesy but it helps to center myself. It is stressful juggling a job and a full time school schedule but it is very doable. I find strength in my friends that are going through the same thing. So to all those students who read my blog: Relax and reward yourself once a week with a quite place. You will be surprised at how relaxed you feel to be away from chatter, blinking screens, and the loveable but sometimes abrasive cellphone.

Me and Shannon, we went to shows together and bonded over silly emo bands

Number 2: After calming down a bit surround yourself with friends and/or family. I am lucky enough to have both within my reach. They ground me in different ways. Sometimes big problems seem so big because the stress is there. We think we have to deal with it ourselves. Just because you have to approach the problem (or stress) on your own doesn't mean you can't ask for help or advice. I would not be here as a blogger without support and encouragement from those close to me. Hell, I wouldn't have made it through the past three days without them.

I really love this tag that can be seen in and around the Copy Cat Building in Baltimore.

Number 3: What makes you happy? Hopefully, if you read my blog, you do not think expensive cars and beautiful men or women on your arm are ideals of happiness. Because they are not! Half the people that have those things aren't happy with their lives, trust me I know some. Encounters with this sort really helped me to understand that money is not the key. You might spend a lot of money and still not buy enough happiness. So save your dough for something special and significant. Find out if taking up a hobby or skill would make you happy. I know after teaching myself how to knit I was much happier because I was able to apply myself to something new to me.

my mom/my (crazy) foundation

Number 4: Know that you will make mistakes but also know that others will too. You are not perfect and neither is the guy/girl sitting next to you. Release unrealistic expectations of others and some tension will just melt away. Don't resist and put up a fight. One of the biggest pieces of advice that was told to me was: "People will be crazy, you can't change that. They must change themselves." If that was a little unclear my mom meant that you must let others decide who/how they are, the individual makes their own choices. This goes for relationships of all kinds. Trust me, this will take a few pounds off your life. Well, I hope this wasn't too long winded and it sure felt good to write after feeling so emotionally blah for a couple of days. Please let me know if this helped you too.

A sneak peek into my closet.

This closet has been a lengthy work in progress. How do I fit the shoes? How do I fit the bags and scarves? I decided to do a color gradient for the clothing which I only hint at in the photos. When organizing a closet you have to prioritize. You have to decide what garments and accessories are most important. And make sure your favorites or staples are the first things you see when you open your closet. I go straight for a dress and shoes so it is important for those to always be available for my eye to catch. Then a sturdy handbag, I would be lying if I said I wore a clutch everyday. And to top it off, some jewelry and a scarf. I am a coat person and own about one for every type of southeastern front that comes through during the fall and winter. Pictured are 3 of my favorites: my army cape that I will soon alter, camel cape, and faux leopard print fur jacket.

Question: Do you have any tricks for your closet?
