Add this to a colorful wardrobe...

HURRAH! is a band I am fond of because it is average dudes playing music I love to dance to. And they look good doing it. There music always brings color to my life. And I have been listening to their albums while I look for some colorful things to wear. Their music is oddly melodramatic but damned if you don't wanna bounce around!

Every time I hear this song I think of the natural light phenomena. None in particular because they are all quite beautiful. Grizzly Bear is a pretty popular band. A band my friends would say is a "college chick band". [See Coldplay and Sufjan Stevens] Readers of my blog know I don't care and I rather like the picture their music paints. I found this late night this past weekend trolling YouTube for fun videos. Maybe it is just me...

Question: Are there bands that exist on your playlist that paint a beautiful picture in your head?

Color week begins today!

Although the summer is coming to a close S/S2011 is about to start.
That means, hopefully,  there will be more color out there!\

Try not to pay attention to the prints.
I am more interested in that bright pink shirt dress.

This applies to accessories too.
And what a good paring: silk top and bright canary yellow purse.

So let's say you don't like any of the above? Pastels are the way to go.
To bad I am still loving my deep reds and fisherman sweater.

Fashion Film Friday: Fashion Horizons (1940)

Produced and directed by Harry D. Donahue.

I have always been fascinated by these vintage fashion featurettes. Seeking out information I discovered it was curated as a travelogue set in the "modern" 1930s. The appeal of the cowboy was still very strong. The Kodachrome is in excellent condition and captures the essence of a culture thrust into popularity. Honestly, it could be said this is one of the first examples of fashion as pop culture in film!

Yes Please: I want this orange tictac camera.

It comes in other colors but I like the orange. It reminds me of orange tictacs, and we all know those are the good ones.* I have found it for quite a good price but they are disapearing. My delay comes from wanting to know what this bad boy could do! So I did a Flickr Search. I don't know if you know but you can search a type of camera in Flickr Search and they will find photos taken from it. Maybe I should op for a SLR? I still think it looks pretty.
*They have a new tropical fruit tictac that is really good but nothing beats orange.

I found some great shots....

Drunk and Sick:

So I have been dealing with personal matters and an upcoming internship which promises to be so exciting your head (as well as mine) will explode. I have a wicked cold and have to move the rest of my items out of my old apartment. See boring personal matters......

SEE YOU SOON LOVERS OF MINE.

Fashion Film Friday: The video and the collection

It is fun to mix it up with feature as I have been including double features here and there. Today it is Hussein Chalayan's turn. What a great design house! This is another one of those designers I was exposed to at an early age because of Fashion Television.

*because of copyright Hussein has only allowed a portion of the 2000 A/W collection to be shown on YouTube. You can see the collection in its entirety at husseinchalayan.com.

All I see are similarities. Someone help me out here! I think the jewelry separates it a little bit.

I'm going to Radio Shaq!

My friend and now collaborator Dahjah Rice has created his own blog! Who knows what it is named after....
It has music, pictures, and words much more poetic than my own. He recently asked me to submit some photography for his zine and I was happy to do so. Luckily I made it right within the deadline.

Fashion Film Friday: Griffin presented by Present Future Films (Double feature)

photos provided by www.presentfuture.net

I was recently contacted by Present Future Films about Griffin's video for Italian Vogue. We discussed Griffin's work a bit and I agreed to post about his work.  I highly recommend his newest fashion film Zan Dara. As an incentive here are some juicy stills. How do you contain the exploration of light, emotion, and the "concept of being" into one minute? I would have to say that Griffin is pushing the envelop a bit. In a sense he is pushing the envelop to question how limited could you make art. And I like his ideas. He has worked with popular music artists like Pharrel but I am most excited about what he will do in the realm of fashion film. Diane Pernet, of course, was the first to explore his work and went as far as to feature two of his films. Pernet selects fashion films, most of a peculiar kind, to Italian Vogue's video lab. I can't believe that film has come to this point as I was losing hope that anyone (directors and producers) wanted to stretch boundaries at all.

I was not familiar with his work until I realized he was commissioned by Rodarte for Nick Knights SHOWstudio to do a fashion film. It was called Vox Humana and features Jenny Lewis. Oddly enough Griffin has worked with Kenneth Anger who I featured last week. I guess it is a small world....

Anka you are my homey from another country.

Anka has been making clothes for a long time. She always has the body in mind, everything has a close fit. I know she loves making clothes because if the weather is too hot she opts to make a new summer outfit rather than buy one. I have tried to keep the lines of communication open between us and I enjoy talking with her on occasion about her designs. I know she will be picked up soon as many bloggers have already gotten wind of her great talents.

After a little pushing she is finally selling her wares on Etsy! And although there are only a few pieces up expect some great things in the coming months. Recently she posted her Fall 2010 lookbook and I have already put a certain dress on my wishlist. If you are still in the spring and summer mood below is a few pieces from her Spring collection.

Examples in Good Living: Rob Crow

Yep he, and the next canidate (Alber Elbaz), are two men who's lives are pretty wonderful. Crow is best known for being in the band Pinback but his musical prowess did not start there (nor does it end there). Extremely excessive Crow has been in over 10 musical project including his own. He can play the guitar, drums, and keyboard. He does all this and has a family. I have a soft spot for hard working family men.

Zach Hill and Rob Crow of Pinback

I can't tell you how many parties and car rides were spent with the soundtrack of one of his bands. I highly recommend Heavy Vegetable, Pinback, Goblin Cock, Optiganally Yours, and his solo albums. Here are some videos!

Yes Please: Candy Tokyo

Nicola Formichetti is a stylist and I read his blog. He made some very very interesting rings for this store in Tokyo called Candy. I haven't heard much about this shop but now that they have an e-store browsing is so much easier. Although Formichetti's rings aren't my taste (creepy critters anyone?) I selected a few pieces I would buy.*
*if I could afford the bill for 1 grand.

I don't think it is in poor taste. As the ignorant people say on the street: "Black Micheal was dead a long time ago." Isn't that a shame. The way the image is silk screened is great. It is very possible that if one were to where that out in the general public they might be harassed.

1. If I want to be Peter Pan I will need this hat. I have this whole theme in my head. It involves a Margiela tunic.
2. If I am ever going to conquer the world I would need a hat like this. It is such a powerful hat! House of Flora makes other fun headpieces that are sold here.

I cannot get enough of see-through so I had to include this. It looks so soft.

Yaazbukey makes things I want to buy for me and my friends. There is more at the e-store including a necklace of  Karl Lagerfeld's face. Who wouldn't want to carry around a big mouse purse?
