Fashion Film Monday: Philip Lim speaks

Fashion Film Friday will be moved to Mondays from now on as to make room for Friends Fridayz. This week Philip Lim speaks to Purple Magazine about the making of his finale garment for last season. I love indulging in what designers have to say about what they do. Looking at the process and the assistants are also amazing! The assistants are the unsung heroes that are so readily available to the designer and willing to work with him or her. The video is shot well and really helped me to understand how such a complicated garment was made.

Fashion Film Friday: Andy Warhol's Debbie Harry and Friends

It is Debbie Harry! I really wanted to be like her when I was a kid. Mind you I am all of 22, by the time I was into Blondie they were already played out. But I love Andy Warhol films and it is possible you do too. What else is there to say? The shimmery fabrics in the last take are inspiration for a new year's eve outfit I won't have time to construct but still dream about. And...I want the shorts that guy is wearing. What is your favorite piece in the video?

PS. I am back to posting and my usual jive. I have missed my readers very much!

NYFWeekend/IFB recap pt.1: The nervous video

This is a little video I was going to post the morning of the conference but I was rushing around trying not to get into a cue at the bathroom. Gotta love hostel living! I managed to do this in private without anyone listening in. My ring is a beaded band with baubles on top. I wear it almost everyday. The head wrap is a pashmina scarf given to me by a friend. The sweater is "vintage" L.L. Bean, and it is super comfy.
Staying on a positive note I was fun doing a video log and I would like to regularly post them. Next time I will look more at the audience, promise. Please let me know if this video does not work. I am trying out Google's video provider.

Ladies and gentlemen, Sophia Lamar. I have been a big fan of yours for a long time. I know everyone knows about you by now but you still deserve lots of props. She has a website too. The website does not seem to be easily navigable but there are some cool pictures up. The people who brought you this video are stylelikeu and they have lots of videos. There is a good one that Cat (of KnightCat) put up on her blog about a week ago, maybe?

Video flash-----BACK: Hugo Boss Summer 09

^ PART ONE

^PART TWO
[source]

Alright, this does remind me of fashion tv that used to air on style network in the States. It was so cheesy but filled my appetite of backstage shots and sneak peek interviews with the behind the scenes machines (production managers, hair stylists, make-up artists, etc.). This video puts me in a nostalgia of sitting by the tv at a young age, with my mom, watching the models traipse up and down the runway in clean cut designs which brings me to the subject of these videos, Hugo Boss. I enjoy Hugo Boss, always have. The fashion house seems so stream line. I notice I adhere to the classics and the ultimate designers that do not typically veer off of their stylistic path. Is this a bad thing? Oh no, am I doomed to be a boring person instead of the fashionista I have always wanted to be?! Can't be all that bad. Whatever happened to Style network. The Look for Less is a lame show and they know it.

Ps. I would like to give a much needed shout out to the Fashionisto and Heavy Metal Fashion for being awesome and entertaining my fashion commentary on their blogs for the past couple of weeks. I've tried to keep my mind off of my current situation and their blogs have helped, thanks guys!

You go boy: Alexander Mcqueen Spring 2010

above pictures from men.style.com

Explosions (literally) of color. For a men's collection I have not been so impressed with a suit in a while. I feel like the captain would wear this and that makes me even more thrilled. I might have to do a DIY for him. The more conservative pieces are just as impressive and well conceived by McQueen.Oh and here is a video of the collection, you know I am into that right now.

a big thanks to Professionally Trendy for mentioning this!

New Beirut DVD! I repeat...

NEW BEIRUT DVD!

Untitled from Jakob Passion on Vimeo.

After disapointing everyone with the cancellation of his tour and the overall change of his line up. He is back with a DVD. You know I love my indie-music-documentaries, Maybe I should make a list because there are a lot out there. If any of your readers love his music as much as I do make sure to pinch yourselves to make sure this is real.

Enamored by the Disturbing Nature of: US Maple

Ask an average music lover who US Maple is and they they will have no clue. No they are not from my home town but me and the captain were watching you tube videos of them the other night and I had to spread the noise. If, at the very least, to give awareness about how amazing they are and the fact that their documentary seems to have been shelved. This band, amongst others, is an example of a chunk of time in music I haven't explored. In the 90s I was only interested in MTV. This was followed by an obsession to find "new" and "different" music. So in my quest some bands I rarely listened to, US Maple was one of them. I remember some of their songs but have never seen them live. At the time of their hey day I was less interested in live shows and more interested in zine writing (aka staying in my room working on things).

The Untitled work about US Maple.

Everyone gets off on saying they have an indescribable sound. BS! They deconstructed music, in turn creating a new sound that is equally listenable and unlistenable. The Captain has probably seen them live a thousand and one times. He was very much into live shows. Now there really isn't anything to replace either of our (maybe just mine) cravings. That is when we come to this awesome idea for a documentary. The you tube preview left me wanting more but the last time the director updated was on his myspace nearly a year ago. What's up with that?

Why do they inspire fashion? I guess they don't. I didn't even know what most of the band members looked like until a few days ago. They are all much older now but I still have a special place in my musical heart for them. Plus....I hear they still got it and always will.
